PHS Boys Basketball: Jacket boys fall into 1st place tie

John George

Breckenridge won the battle for the top of the Heart O' Lakes Conference Friday night with a 60-51 win over Perham. The Jackets had entered the game with a one-game lead over Breckenridge for first place in the HOL.

Head coach Dave Cresap said he didn't want difficulties his team has had to face in the past week to take away from the effort of his opponents.

"They are a pretty good team," Cresap said of Barnesville. "You don't get to a record like 14-3 without a reason."

Ben Bucholz led the Jackets with 20 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Bruhn was also in double figures with 11.

"I think it was a good test for us," Cresap said. "We faced a tough team in a hostile environment. Hopefully we learned a few things we can use later."

Cresap added that the difference in the game was in turnovers and on the boards. Breckenridge outrebounded Perham, 28-20, and they forced 15 Jacket turnovers while only committing nine.

The Jackets snapped a four-game losing streak to the Cowboys with their 61-57 win on Dec. 11.

Perham will then have nearly a week off before starting a three-game home stand on Feb. 4 against D-G-F. The Jackets will be looking for the season sweep over the Rebels after a win in Glyndon on Dec. 14, 65-52.
