Perham takes second at Tipsinah Mounds

Andrew Hurt tees off in the rain on the Oak Course first hole at Perham Lakeside Golf Club.

The Perham boys golf team finished second, two strokes behind Hawley in the first Heart O' Lakes conference meet of the year, April 22 at Tipsinah Mounds.

Perham finished with a score of 150. Medalist honors went to Bret Severson, of Hawley, who shot a 34. Nic Smith, of Perham, tied for second, with a round of 35. He won a scorecard playoff with Ryan LeNoue of Barnesville for second place.

Other Yellowjacket scores were Evan Arvig 37; Kyle Dykhoff 38; Dan Cavanagh, Andrew Hurt, and Cory Dykhoff all shot 40.

The Jackets hosted a rainy meet Saturday at Perham Lakeside Golf Club. The weather and other spring activities had participant numbers down from past years.

"Turnout was disappointing, but there are many conflicts this time of year with proms and other invitationals," Head Coach Jeff Tweeton said. "We're going to be a bit more aggressive next year in order to get the numbers back up to where they should be."

The Perham Black team took top honors shooting 333, 18 shots better than Battle Lake. The Perham Gold team placed fourth, 371 and the junior varsity team took advantage of the home course to best Barnesville by two strokes.

Medalist was Frazee's Beau Hanson, with an even par 73; Toby Curtis from Battle Lake was second, with an 80; Jake Ukkelberg, Battle Lake, Nic Smith and Evan Arvig, of Perham, tied for third, with scores of 81.
