Perham linksters chase Hawley again

Another week, another second place finish behind the Hawley Nuggets for Jeff Tweeton's golf team.

The boys team finished with a score of 159, 11 strokes behind Hawley's 148 at Balmoral Golf Course.

The Yellowjackets are keeping pace with the front running conference leaders.

After two meets, Hawley stands atop the standings with two points. Perham is in second with four.

Leading the way for the Jackets at Balmoral was Perham's Evan Arvig, who shot a 36 for second place.

Barnesville's Ryan LeNoue, Hawley's Bret Syverson, and Frazee's Beau Hanson shot 34 to tie for medalist honors. Hanson was also medalist last week at the Perham Invitational at Perham Lakeside Golf Club.

Other Jacket scores: Dan Cavanagh, Alex Phelps 41 and Tom Huus all shot 41. Andrew Hurt 42, and Nic Smith 44.

Cardinal Invitational

Roseau took the team title on a rainy Saturday at the Cardinal Invitational at The Vintage at Staples with a score of 317. Medalist was Nick Forsberg from Staples shooting a 75.

"A very respectable (score) considering the rainy, windy, cool conditions and the difficulty of the Vintage," Perham Head Coach Jeff Tweeton said.

Perham's team score of 345 was good for seventh place.

Dan Cavanagh shot the low round for the Yellowjackets with an 82. Other Perham scores: Evan Arvig 85; Alex Phelps 88; Nic Smith 90; Kyle Dykhoff 91; and Cory Dykhoff 100.

"Dan, Evan, and Alex all played well for nine holes, but then fell apart on the back nine," Tweeton said. "The fact that they did well for nine holes is encouraging, though. We have a pretty heavy schedule this week, so we'll see how it washes out. They need to start stepping up to the tee a bit. Sub-sections and sections come pretty fast now."

After two conference meets, the Yellowjackets find themselves in a solid second place.

Hawley has two points; Perham four, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton and Barnesville have seven, Frazee 12, Pelican and West Central 13, Battle Lake 14, Breckenridge 18, and LPA at 20 round out the conference point standings.
