Perham girls hot on the links

The Perham girls golf team took the top spot at Willow Creek Golf Course in Barnesville.

The Yellowjackets took the Heart O' Lakes Conference meet with a total score of 178 strokes.

Pelican Rapids finished 15 strokes back for second with 193, followed by: Hawley-Ulen-Hitterdal--199; Barnesville--200; West Central Area--214; Lake Parke-Audubon--241, and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton--249.

Other Perham scores: Kari Cavanagh--49, Becca Huebsch and Rachel Nelson both shot 50.

The girls battled a chilly wind and rain while hosting their HOL conference meet Monday.

The girls combined score of 170 was 28 strokes better than second place Pelican Rapids and the Yellowjackets have a three-point advantage in the conference standings over the Vikings.

Conference standings after the Perham HOL meet are: Perham--3; Pelican Rapids--6; Barnesville--11; Hawley-Ulen-Hitterdal--12; West Central Area--12; Lake Park-Audubon--18; Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton--21 and Breckenridge--24.

Kaylan Huber took medalist honors shooting a 39 in tough conditions. Huber's score was enough to jump her into the number two spot in the HOL conference rankings after three meets.

Atop the rankings is fellow Yellowjacket Holly Karkela. Both girls are averaging 40.67 strokes.

The Perham girls own four of the top five conference rankings and six of the top 10.

Ali Smith and Becca Huebsch are four and five. Abby Feist of Pelican Rapids is ranked third.

Rounding out the top ten are Kari Cavanagh in ninth and Rachel Nelson tenth.
