2010 Lund Mania Fishing Tournament

Room for 20 more entrants of the 50-boat Lund Mania fishing tournament field remain.

There is also a need for volunteer spotters to man the boats.

Spotters are third parties to the fishing entrants to aid in verifying and recording caught fish in this one-of-a-kind catch, record and release tournament.

"No fish are killed and that is a big deal with the Department of Natural Resources," Organizer Al Berube said.

Spotters will meet the night before the tournament Thursday, July 1 at 7 p.m. in the New York Mills city hall. Pizza will be served.

Spotters will be assigned to boats at the meeting.

"It's pretty neat," Berube said. "Some guys could get matched up with Gary Roach or Al Lindner."

Last year one lucky spotter got to ride around with Kent Hrbek of the Twins.

The tournament will take place Friday, July 2 on Ottertail Lake. Teams will compete for over $30,000 in prizes, including a 1625 Rebel XL SS Lund boat, Mercury 50 4-stroke ELPT EFI motor and Shoreland trailer to the winner.

The top 10 entrants, by the combined weight of fish caught, will be featured in a parade in New York Mills. Fishermen turn in their scorecards at the end of the fishing day in Ottertail and will be notified to go to New York Mills where the winner will be announced in a show following the parade hosted by Jason Gautier.

"It's a really big and good show," said Berube.

Registration forms can be found at Hoot's Sports in Perham or downloaded on the Focus website in this story article. Entry fee is $295 per team and the deadline for registration is June 20.

Checks can be made payable to NYM C&C and mailed to Farmers & Merchant State Bank, Attn: Al Berube, PO Box 278, New York Mills, MN 56567.
