Week of sports washed out

A waterlogged ball rests on the rain-soaked tarp covering the pitcher's mound at Al Krueger field Friday.

It did not take a meteorologist to forecast last week's weather. The majority of the planned sporting events in the area were postponed due to rain, rain and more rain.

Make-up dates from games already postponed earlier in the year have also been postponed. In the whole of the week, Monday was the only day applicable to most outdoor sports before the weekend hit.

Tuesday, May 11 dates from Perham sports are rescheduled as follows:

Baseball at Crosby-Ironton postponed to June 1. Softball versus Wadena-Deer Creek, May 21. Girls golf at Lake Park has been cancelled and varsity track at Staples, already rescheduled for May 13 has yet to be determined.

Seventh and eighth grade baseball games versus Wadena-Deer Creek, boys junior high golf at Forest Hills and varsity girls golf at Lake Park were cancelled.

Thursday, May 13 games rescheduled:

Baseball versus Detroit Lakes postponed to May 20.

Softball doubleheader versus Crosby-Ironton has been moved to May 22. Junior high softball at Pelican Rapids was cancelled.

At the time of printing, rescheduled dates from New York Mills teams had not been submitted.
