Eagles start win streak taking two over the weekend
The New York Mills Eagles girls softball team took advantage of some nice weather and strong pitching from Kendra McCall to down Pillager 5-2 Saturday at Frazee.
The Yellowjackets also defeated the host Hornets 5-2 in the second half of the three-team tournament.
A two-out rally in the third inning erased a 1-0 deficit, as the Eagles scored three runs on five straight hits, including doubles from EmaLeigh Roberts and Micaela Lausten and back-to-back-to back singles off the bats of Jenna Esala, Autumn Roberts and Brittany Lee.
NY Mills would add runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-1 lead into the last Pillager at-bats.
The Huskies would bring the tying run to the plate after scoring before McCall got Danielle Johnson to fly out behind third base.
Eagles 5. Hornets 2
Frazee would jump out early to a 2-0 leading scoring the number two and three hitters in the first inning but would not move any more runners across the plate. The Hornets managed only three hits in the game.
Brittany Lee scored twice for the Eagles. McCall, Lausten, Esala would also cross the plate for tallies.
Esala led all Eagle hitters going 2-3 at the plate.
Wolverines 6, Eagles 5
In play, Monday, before last week's rain, the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines manufactured a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Eagles 6-5 Monday in non-conference play.
Jenna Esala scored twice for the Eagles. McCall, RaeAnna Salo and Lee also rounded the bases.
Lead-off hitter Leah Dykhoff reached base safely three of four times for the Wolverines and scored each time making up half the WDC runs.
The loss continued a skid for the Eagles seeing the team drop six of the past seven games after a 3-5 start. The weekend wins in Frazee have the team back on a win streak.
The Eagles wrap up conference play with doubleheaders against Parkers Prairie and Sebeka.
