Jackets defeat Wadena, DGF

Shortstop Brad Ellingson applies the tag to Jordan Reiff attempting to swipe second base, while Second Baseman Mike Warne backs up the play.

The Perham baseball team improved its record to 10-8 heading into the final double-header of the season against Crosby-Ironton.

The Jackets split a doubleheader with Wadena-Deer Creek dropping the first game 5-2 before winning 9-2. Perham defeated Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 6-1 last Thursday.

Wadena-Deer Creek scored twice in the first inning of the nightcap looking for the sweep, but were answered by the Jackets deuce in the first. The game was sealed in the second inning as the Jacket offense exploded for six runs.

Jesse Hein continued to be productive at the plate. He jacked two-run homers in the first and second innings.

Brad Ellingson went 2-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Studer threw five strong innings scattering six hits, fanning three and walking only two.

Jackets 6, Rebels 1

Hein had three RBI and scored twice against DGF to back up another controlled performance by Ellingson on the mound. Ellingson struck out six and walked three in five innings of work. Shaun Stafki polished the game off throwing the final two innings.
