Lund Mania fishing tournament Friday, July 2

The team of Miles Nelson and Ray Sonnenberg return to defend their Lund Mania fishing tournament title.

The Lund Mania fishing tournament will take place Friday, July 2 on Ottertail Lake.

Teams will compete for over $30,000 in prizes, including a 1625 Rebel XL SS Lund boat, Mercury 50 4-stroke ELPT EFI motor and Shoreland trailer to the winner.

The top 10 entrants, by the combined weight of fish caught, will be featured in a parade in New York Mills at 6:30 p.m.

The top ten fishermen turn in their scorecards at the end of the fishing day in Ottertail and will be notified to go to New York Mills where the winner will be announced.

The top ten drive in the parade with their boats.

"It's a good way for the public to see what kind of boats and equipment these guys use," Organizer Al Berube said.

None of the top ten finishers are notified of placing. They drive through the parade and are awarded in an exciting show at the end of the procession hosted by Jason Gautier.

A team is announced and they stay on the stage until another team knocks them off.

Last year's winners, Miles Nelson and Ray Sonnenberg are registered looking to defend their title. Sonnenberg and Nelson caught six fish for 25.6 pounds, edging the team of Professional Angler Al Lindner and Michelle Trudeau of Lund Boat Company

A fish fry will be held on Main Street, along with a fishing seminar for kids hosted by Al Lindner and Gary Roach at 5 p.m. A street dance follows the parade and awards ceremony.

45 teams have registered leaving only five openings.
