The New York Mills high school bowling team concluded the regular season with the varsity team finishing 12-6 record.

Fergus Falls took the top spot compiling a 15-3 regular season record.

The junior varsity bowlers finished in fourth place.

The junior varsity bowled their best games of the season at the Sat., Oct. 30 conference tournament held at Wadena Lanes.

"I am real proud of the way these young kids are improving," Head Coach LuAnn Koskiniemi said.

Five of the seven junior varsity bowlers were first year participants.

"It takes a lot of practice, concentration and consistency to become great bowlers and they each have a lot of potential."

The varsity team won the first tournament match versus Detroit Lakes 3-1 to advance to the championship against Fergus Falls.

The two teams split the first two games before the Otters put together an eight-frame string of strikes to take game three.

The Otters took game four advancing to the state tournament to be held Sat., Dec. 4 at 9 a.m. at Midway Pro Bowl in St. Paul, Minn.

The Eagles move on to the Minnesota Qualifying Tournament (MQT) at Skyline Lanes in Hermantown.

The MQT is a tournament for all second-place finishers. The top four teams advance to the state tournament.

"We need to stay focused and be a little more consistent. We have a very good chance to advance."

All-conference honors were announced at the tournament in Wadena.

The team consists of the top eight bowlers in the conference by fill percentage (strikes and spares).

Tommy Selander was fifth in the conference with a 75.84 fill percentage and Isaiah Bauck finished seventh with 69.84 percent.

Kyle Vorderbruggen just missed making the team finishing ninth in the conference and Adam Snelgrove finished 11th.

Selander and Bauck will be participating in the all-conference tournament Saturday, Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. at Pinz in Oakdale, Minn.

An all-honors team was also announced. These were bowlers who showed great leadership, dedication and sportsmanship throughout their career. Selander was chosen from the Eagles team for this honor.
