The Perham wrestling team beat a testy Border West squad, 37-25, in the opening round of Frazee's Les Kertscher Dual Tournament before dropping duals to Minneota in the championship semis, 54-15, and the third place match with rival Frazee, 60-6, for a fourth place finish.

Josh Werner and Brandon Lueders had their hands full against state-ranked Border West opponents Mitch Andrews and Gus McCarthy. Their ability to stave off bonus points kept Perham in the match early.

Brady Sazama won a tight 8-5 decision at 135 pounds over Taylor McCalip and Patrick Glynn, as an alternate, turned the momentum in Perham's favor with a fall at 1:01 against Gage Cronen.

The match was tied at 15.

Ty Haverland dropped a 9-3 decision to Nick Stafford and Border West's Nic Stafford scored a major decision over Andrew Moberg, 12-2, before Perham's advantage in the heavier weights took over the match.

Perham won four of the final five matches to move into the semifinals.

Gene Schleeter scored a fall at 2:49. Garrett Biegler pinned Neal Sear at 1:12. Cody Nylander made quick work of Jamie Wenker at 36 seconds. The anchor of the Yellowjackets squad, Jesse Hein, was forced to go the distance taking a 13-2 major decision.

Perham moved on to battle number three ranked Minneota.

James Harlow gained a 9-4 decision at 112 pounds. Lueders won by fall at 125 and Hein won again by fall over Doug Van Keulen to comprise Perham's scoring.

Frazee dominated the third place match pitching a shutout to the heavyweight match where Hein kept the goose egg off the board pinning Tyler Hanson in a mere 47 seconds.

"Jesse continues to look dominating," Head Coach Robb Moser said.

Perham has youth and inexperience at a few weights.

"The one thing they need is more mat time," Moser said.

Kimball beat Minneota for the tournament title. Frazee took third over Perham. Border West took fifth place over Fargo North. Bemidji finished seventh beating Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale.
