Gymnasts win again

The Perham gymnastics team took another title last week. This time it was the St. Cloud Tech Team Pride Invitational.

Perham outscored the seven other teams putting up a score of 143.8. St. Cloud Tech was second with 140.05. Sartell was third with 136.8 and Sauk Rapids fourth with a score of 135.45.

The event is a team-oriented contest and individual awards are played down compared to team achievements.

That being said, Kelsi Vomacka did what she has done all year: outscore everyone.

"She's really in good form at this point in the season," Head Coach Charlie Fleck said.

Vomacka was first in the vault-9.45, and first on floor exercise scoring a 9.5. She finished second on uneven parallel bars-9.2 to St. Cloud Tech's Mariah Miller-9.3.

She did not crack the top three on beam, which was won in a tie between Perham's Mikaela Eickschen and Tech's Paige Beuning.

But Vomacka's points were enough for a close two-tenths all-around victory over teammate Eickschen-36.45 to 36.25. Tech's Miller was third with a score of 35.75.

Other Yellowjackets to place were Carly Peterson tied for second on vault scoring 9.4. Alexis Peichel was third on bars with an 8.85. Satera Montella took third on floor exercise scoring 9.3 to complete a Yellowjacket sweep of the floor with Vomacka and Eickschen.

Not surprisingly, Perham remains ranked number one in the latest state rankings.

"Our coaching staff is very pleased," Fleck said. "We're healthy at this point of the season and hopefully, during the Christmas break, we can make the improvements to really do well."
