Perham swimmers defeat Morris, seventh at True Team

Jayden Cullen, 100 butterfly, Ben Collette, 500 freestyle and Zach Langendorfer, 500 freestyle-all qualified for sections as Perham dominated Morris Area 118-63.

The Jackets took first place in nine events.

Randy Swanson held the top spot in the 200 I.M., along with Leighton Covington and Luke Potts finishing second and third. Swanson was also tops in the 100-butterfly in a time of 1:04.27. Cullen took second three seconds behind Swanson.

Potts, Covington and Jonathon Siira swept the top three spots in the 100-backstroke. Potts' time of 1:14.86 was best by seven seconds.

The 500-freestlye was another sweep for the Jackets. Collette took first place going out in a 30.92 first leg, holding a tight average near 35 seconds through the race and finishing in a clip of 32.12 for the victory. Langendorfer and Ben Sullivan were second and third.

Collette also won the 50-freestyle in a time of 25.63.

T.J. Studer won the 100-freestyle in a time of 1:01.66.

The 200-freestyle and 200-medley relay teams were each victorious.

Perham narrowly missed sweeping the 100-breastroke. Mark Murphy and Cullen took the top two spots. Joshua Young was fourth.

Seventh at True Team

Perham finished in front of Morris again, taking seventh place at the Section 5A True Team meet in Willmar.

"I am very proud of how the boys did," Head Coach Sheri Ressler said. "We had 42 time drops and that was a major focus for us and they did a great job."

Chad Hofland qualified for Sections in the 500-freestyle.

Freshman Mark Shipman was 10th in diving out of 25 divers.

Swanson finished eighth out of 26 in the 100-butterfly.

Cullen was Perham's top finisher taking third place in the 500-freestyle in a time of 5:32.93. He was just under 12 second behind Detroit Lakes' Brandon Olson in first.

Shipman, Langendorfer, Studer and Cullen combined for sixth place in the 200-freestyle relay.
