Depleted Eagle girls fall twice

The New York Mills girls basketball team dropped two games, one to conference opponent Pillager, 55-33, and to section rival Norman County East 57-36.

The losses keep the Eagles winless in the Park Region Conference standings at 0-12. The Eagles are 3-7 in section play with victories over Ashby, Ulen-Hitterdal and Park Christian.

The Eagles, however, are above four teams in Section 6A North standings. Ulen-Hitterdal has four more losses at 3-11. Park Christian is 2-9, Rothsay has one section win and Norman County West is winless in the section at 0-11.

Senior guard Jackie White led Pillager with 16 points. Her output left her three points shy of 1,000 points for her career.

EmaLeigh Roberts was the only Eagle in double figures. She scored 10.

NY Mills held tight to the Huskies down 31-22 at the half, but Pillager would slam on the brakes defensively, holding the Eagles to only 11 second half points.

Katelin Sirjord had a hot hand for Norman County East scoring 12 first half points to lead NCE. She finished the game with 14 points.

Jackie Imsande led the Eagles with 12 points, six from the field and six from the charity stripe.

Norman County East dominated play in both halves never allowing NY Mills to get into the ball game.

The Eagles were without the services of eighth-grade standout Ellie Rutten, who missed both games due to illness.
