Perham girls golfers dominating HOL

Tina Scheidecker chips from the fringe during Perham's home HOL Conference meet.

Holly Karkela and Kaylan Huber continue to lead the Yellowjackets to conference golf tournament titles, this time at Frazee Tuesday afternoon.

Karkela's medalist 42 was one stroke better than teammate Huber's 43.

Hawley finished two strokes behind Perham, as a team, shooting 184 to the Yellowjackets' 182.

Karkela and Huber's scores were the same from the meet they recently won in Hawley, keeping their stroke averages right at 42 and 43.

Ali Smith finished Frazee in 48 strokes; Rachel Nelson shot a 49. Both sophomores are in the top 10 in conference stroke average after two meets. Nelson is fourth averaging 46.5. Smith is ninth with an average of 48.5.

Lexi Matfeld placed third at Frazee with a 45 behind Perham's senior duo three strokes off of Karkela's pace.

Destiny Mitchell, of Perham, shot a 49. Tina Scheidecker carded a 65 on Frazee's hilly course.

The Perham girls returned home to Perham Lakeside Golf Club to host the "Pines" HOL Conference Tournament and used the home course advantage to place four golfers in the top six.

No surprise, Karkela took medalist honors, as she has all conference season. She was the only golfer to crack 40 shooting a 39.

Matfeld, of Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal was second a stroke back. Pelican Rapids' Emily Youn was third carding a 41.

Huber, Smith and Nelson swept fourth through sixth place shooting 42, 45 and 46.

Both victories have added a gap between Perham, with three conference points, and second place Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal's seven points and Pelican Rapids in third at eight.

Individually, Karkela sits atop the conference standings 1.67 strokes above Huber. Karkela is averaging 41 strokes per conference meet. Huber is second with 42.67. Matfeld and Youn are third and fourth, 43.67 and 44, ahead of two more Yellowjackets.

Nelson is fifth in the HOL averaging 46.33. Smith is a stroke back at 47.33.

The top 15 golfers at the end of the season earn all-conference honors.

Perham's Destiny Mitchell currently holds the 15 spot with an average of 50.33, giving the Yellowjackets five probable all-conference golfers.

Pelican Rapids has four in the top 15. Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal has three.
