Jacket girls fourth at Sub-sections

Bailey Meyer led the way for the Perham girls track team taking two events at the Section 6A Sub-section meet in Pelican Rapids.

Meyer won the discus throwing 106-feet one-inch and kept it going in the shot put outdistancing the competition with a throw of 34-feet four-inches. Amber Kalina placed fourth in the shot with a throw of 32-feet eight-inches.

Miranda Lockhart placed third six inches back of Meyer's winning throw. Lockhart threw 100-feet even to sandwich second place finisher Megan Biegler of Ottertail Central between the two Yellowjackets.

Lockhart also took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4-feet 10-inches.

Meyer's 20 points in just two events were nearly a quarter of Perham's total of 89, which was good for fourth place.

Breckenridge won the meet with 117 points, Ottertail Central was second 11 points back at 106 and Pelican Rapids took third with 93 points, four ahead of Perham. Rounding out the top five was Barnesville with 65 points.

Susan Merkins added more field points with a fifth place pole vault clearing seven-feet. She cleared seven-feet six-inches to qualify.

Perham had another event champion in the 4x800m relay. Two ninth-graders, Racole Karels and Mary Riestenberg combined with senior and three-sport star Kelli Meehl and junior Cassie Beseman to win in 10:25.35, over 10 seconds better than Frazee's second place team.

Meehl and Riestenberg teamed up with Kelsey Kratzke and Rayna Jacobson to take fifth in the 4x400m relay.

Jacobson led off the sixth place finishing 4x200m relay team, along with Maren Anderson, Analea Erickson and Laine Miller in a time of 1:58.98.

Kratzke led a pair of Yellowjackets to points-earning finishes in the 1600m run. Kratzke ran away from the competition in a winning time of 5:35.00. Sydney Karels was fifth in 5:50.83.

Beseman, Kratzke and Racole Karels showed Perham's dominance in mid to long distance running. Beseman won the 3200m run in 12:15.66. Kratzke was third, 12:25.69. Racole Karels was fifth in 12:54.17.

Natalie Murphy just missed the 100m hurdles title finishing six hundredths of a second back of Frazee's McKinzie Tangen, 16.86 and 16.92.

Riestenberg finished sixth in the 800m run, 2:41.01.

Tanya Berns nabbed a team point finishing sixth in the 300m hurdles in a time of 52.96.

Qualifiers will compete at Minnesota State University-Moorhead in the Section 6A meet on Thursday, June 2.
