Perham boys second at 6A Sub-section meet

Desmine Duffy finished behind Frazee standout Forrest Jackson and Barnesville's Brett Johnson in the long jump with a third place jump of 18-feet three and a half-inches.

The Perham boys track team edged out Breckenridge by two points to take runner-up honors at the Section 6A Sub-section meet in Pelican Rapids.

Ottertail Central took the top spot with 127 points. Perham was second with 95, Breckenridge third with 93. Barnesville and Frazee rounded out the top five with 92.5 and 78.5 points respectively.

Three Yellowjackets won events at the meet.

Brady Speicher won the 3200m run in a time of 10:18.20. He was one of three Yellowjackets garnering team points in the event. Brandon Karels was fourth, 10:19.72 and Billy Beseman finished fifth in 10:26.70.

Nick Carignan led a three-way sweep of the top spots in the 1600m run. Carignan took top honors in 4:44.81. Teammates Klaus Weber and Andrew Riestenberg were second and third in times of 4:52.75 and 4:55.89. The trio combined for 24 team points with the sweep.

Distance running continued to put points up for Perham in the 800m run. Dalton Dahms won the event in 2:02.38. Jayden Cullen added two points with a fifth place finish in 2:12.08.

Tyler Kuhl and Desmine Duffy added third place finishes, good for six team points each.

Duffy finished behind Frazee standout Forrest Jackson and Barnesville's Brett Johnson in the long jump with a jump of 18-feet three and a half-inches. Jackson won the event clearing 19-feet nine and a half inches.

Kuhl placed third in the 300m hurdles in a time of 42.69, behind Barnesville's Isaac Goedtke and Ottertail Central's Jake Smith. Goedtke won the event in 41.85.

Other Perham placers were Shogo Suzuki, fifth in the 200m dash, 24.25; Daniel Hill was sixth in the 110m hurdles in 20.94; The Perham 4x100m relay team of Suzuki, Isaac Garcia, Duffy and Mike Wiskow finished fifth in a time of 47.08.

The foursome combined for a sixth place finish in the 4x200m relay in a time of 1:43.92.

Wiskow also finished fourth in the high jump clearing five-feet 10-inches to qualify and five-feet six-inches in the finals.

In the 4x400m relay, Kuhl, Carignan, Dahms and Matt Shipman placed fourth, 3:43.39, over a second and a half better than their qualifying time of 3:45.00.

The top finish for the Perham boys in relays came in the 4x800. Dahms, Speicher, Karels and Carignan placed second in a time of 8:39.48. Ottertail Central took the event in 8:25.12.

James Vana cleared nine-feet to qualify and eight-feet six-inches in the final to place sixth in the pole vault.

William Parks added a sixth place finish in the discus throwing 117-feet six-inches to qualify and 113-feet six-inches in the finals.

Ben Collette finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 39-feet three-inches. He threw 43-feet four-inches to qualify.

Qualifiers will compete at Minnesota State University-Moorhead in the Section 6A meet on Thursday, June 2.
