Bulldogs end Jacket softball season

The Ottertail Central Bulldogs ended a tough Yellowjackets softball season in a tough way, blanking Perham 1-0 in the opening round of Section 8AA South Subsection play.

The Yellowjackets end the season with a record of 4-14.

Perham had show signs of improvement taking two games at the twice-rain-suspended Frazee tournament in mid-May, but run production was not high enough to continue the streak.

Perham averaged 7.6 runs per game while giving up 8.0 per game, a recipe for tight games, like the season finale at Ottertail Central.

Both teams managed only three hits.

Brita Sundberg had all three Yellowjacket hits, including two doubles, but Perham was unable to get her across the plate.

Perham stranded three runners on base during the game, all of which were Sundberg.

Ottertail Central left six runners on the bags.

The Bulldogs scored one in the bottom of the first and made it hold up for the remainder of the game.

Ashley Silbernagel pitched a gem allowing just the one run, striking out four and walking a pair.

At the plate, 13 Yellowjackets were struck out, taking nearly half the game away at the plate.

The Bulldogs were eliminated in the second round of play by Fergus Falls, 2-0.
