Huskies eliminate Lady Eagles

LeeAnn Flanigan is tagged out at the plate in a game played against Pillager earlier this season.

The Pillager Huskies exacted some revenge knocking the New York Mills Eagles softball team out of the Section 6A playoffs with a 9-1 victory.

New York Mills eliminated Pillager from the playoffs last season.

The Eagles advanced after defeating Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 6-3 in the first round of the Section 6A playoffs.

The two teams had split earlier in the season with nearly identical victories over each other. In both games, NY Mills scored 22 runs, while the Huskies put up 21.

The Huskies went with Ally Hunstad to start the game and she pitched a complete game for the win. She struck out three.

Hunstad held the Eagles to only three hits, while Pillager pounded out 15, scoring nine times.

Kaylie Hanson was 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Kelly Mast was also 3-4 with three RBI for Pillager.

Alexi Rankka took the loss for NY Mills.

Pillager was knocked out in the next round in a close contest with Ashby. The Arrows advances with a 3-2 victory.

The Eagles finish the year 13-9, which is their best finish since 2008-09, when they went 13-7. Last year's club was 10-12.
