Perham Stingers split two at state tournament

BEMIDJI -- The Perham Stingers VFW baseball team defeated Elk River 7-1 in the first round of state baseball action this morning at Bemidji State University.

Post 4020 will face District 3's Luverne at Bemidji State University Field at 7 p.m., in second round action.

Eric Brauch pitched seven innings striking out nine batters and allowing no earned runs in the victory. Perham only managed five hits but took advantage of seven walks and three Elk River errors.

A three-run double with the bases loaded by JT Laughlin capped a six-run fifth inning for the Stingers.

In the evening game, Luverne defeated the Stingers 8-2 in second round action of the double-elimination tournament. Perham plays Ranview Friday morning in an elimination game.
