Volleyball: NY Mills splits with Highway 10 rivals

The Eagles volleyball team split two matches with Highway 10 rivals #9 ranked 2A Wadena-Deer Creek and Verndale.

Wadena-Deer Creek backed up their state ranking with a straight three game sweep of the Eagles winning by 25-13, 25-12 and 25-9.

"This was the most net play we've had all year," Head Coach Amy Koskela said.

NY Mills defeated Verndale needing all five games to do it in comeback fashion after falling behind two games to zero, 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20 and 15-11.

"It was good for us to come back and play games four and five and ending up on top."

Every Eagle scored in the dig column, led by Brooke Kupfer's 29. Taylor Geiser added 19. Tori Kempenich had 16 and Lexie Rankka had 14.

Rankka had a huge 50 assists landing mostly in the striking zone of Jackie Imsande, who had 20 kills. Ellie Rutten spiked 16 while blocking 14 Verndale attempts at points.

The margin of victory in any of the five games never stretched past five points with games two and three being decided on match point 24.

"All the games were extremely close."

Brittney Noon led the Wolverines with 14 kills, 10 digs and seven blocks.
