Football: Tigers shut out Eagles

Prairie-South Conference leaders Browerville showed why they are on top of the standings shutting out New York Mills 36-0.

"(They) don't do anything really fancy but they do it very well. This is what we are striving for in that Browerville doesn't beat themselves and they play excellent defense," Head Coach Matt Radniecki said.

Up 8-0, the Tigers converted a big fourth down with 14 yards needed for a first leading to their second touchdown of the game.

"Their second touchdown really deflated us before the end of the first half."

Browerville took a 15-0 lead into the break.

"It would have been interesting if we could have (gone) in at halftime down 8-0 instead of 15-0."

Browerville wore down the Eagle defense in the second half with a number of big plays.

"We knew what they were going to do but at the same time they execute and get off the ball as well as any team we are going to face this year."

The road will be even stiffer for the Eagles with two less days of practice in preparation for the toughest team they will face all year, the #4 ranked 2A Barnesville Trojans on the road.

Barnesville is undefeated and averaging 50 points per game while yielding less than a touchdown.

"The kids played hard and I feel that our effort is still there but we have to learn to play a full four quarters. We have not done that yet, when we do that we will start to see some more wins in the win column."

Notching one in the win column at Barnesville on Wednesday will be a monumental task to say the least.

"The kids have had a super attitude and I expect to see that continue as we finish up the regular season and playoffs in the next couple of weeks."

The junior varsity team got a victory over Browerville 16-8.

"The team played well and made some big plays on defense at the end to seal the victory. This group has gotten better each and every week and we need to hit the weight room and continue to get better heading into next year."
