Preseason talk speculated on whether or not this was the year Detroit Lakes would supersede their Highway 10 rivals and knock off Perham at the section level.

This season Perham seeks its 10th consecutive section title and trip to the state meet.

Prospects on the Yellowjacket-Laker matchup were evened out after the second meeting of the two teams, as Perham put up 142 points to 136.15 for the Lakers Tuesday evening in Perham.

Perham senior Satera Montella dominated the meet winning all four events for her second all-around title of the season and the same number in two weeks.

Montella won the vault with a score of 9.45, followed by teammate Carly Breitenfeldt's 9.2. Jessica Stelter of Detroit Lakes was third-8.9.

"We started off good with nearly 36 on vault," Perham Head Coach Charlie Fleck said as the Yellowjackets rotated to uneven parallel bars.

The Lakers took second and third on bars with Stelter-8.75 in second and Natalie Hoffert in third with a score of 8.5. Perham's Alexi Peichel tied Hoffert with the same score. Montella, however, reigned supreme with an 8.95.

Montella put up her two biggest scores of the meet on beam, winning with a 9.65. Hoffert and fellow Laker Jordyn Peterson were next with scores of 9.15.

On the floor exercise, Montella put up the biggest score of the meet--a 9.7. Peterson was second, 9.2, followed by Breitenfeldt's 9.05.

Breitenfeldt finished third in the all-around with a score of 35.15, just one-tenth of a point behind DL's Stelter in second, 35.25. Montella was not challenged winning by over two and a half points with a 37.75.

Montella was also the all-around champion last week at St. Cloud Tech.

Hoffert and Peterson finished fourth and sixth overall with Perham's Adrienne Meyer in fifth with 33.9 points.

Earlier in December, Detroit Lakes had outscored Perham by nearly six points at the invitational at St. Cloud Apollo.

Perham has shown steady improvement all month, led by Breitenfeldt, a seventh-grader, and especially. Montella.

Perham will be off until after the New Year. They will next compete Tuesday evening, Jan. 10, in Park Rapids.

Detroit Lakes will travel to face Moorhead on Thursday, Jan 5.
