Wrestling: Hein and Nylander combine for six pins to lead Perham to runners-up at Dravis Duals

STAPLES-Perham heavyweight Jesse Hein exerted less than three minutes of effort winning three matches by fall, while Cody Nylander dominated the 220-pound classes winning his three matches by fall in just over four minutes total time leading the Yellowjackets to a runners-up finish at the Don Dravis Duals in Staples Saturday.

After dispatching Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in the quarterfinals 61-6 and defeating Sartell-Saint Stephen, 39-23, in the semifinals, Perham met the #2-1A Kimball Area Cubs in the finals.

The Cubs and Yellowjackets met at the Frazee tournament Dec. 17 with the Cubs coming out on top 46-15.

Perham has improved since then, but not enough to handle the spirited Cubs, who took the Dravis title by a score of 42-30.

Kimball got out early with three straight pins to open an 18-0 advantage.

Brandon Lueders scored for Perham with a fall at 5:09 over Brady Mehr.

Marcus Harner provided Kimball's fourth pin in five matches with a 0:16 fall over Perham's Collin Nietzke.

Josh Werner and Luke Sailer brought Perham back with decisions, Sailer's in double overtime and Ty Haverland earned a forfeit at 152 pounds to cut the deficit to just six at 24-18.

Kimball wrestlers won four matches in a row to put the dual out of reach before Nylander and Hein put up their dozen points.

#5-1A ranked Alex Thurber moved down a weight to 190 to avoid Nylander and face Gio Garcia. Thurber pinned Garcia at 2:36.

Of Kimball Area's 10 ranked wrestlers, Perham faced seven, six of whom are ranked top five in their weight class. All seven were victorious.

Perham's ranked wrestlers Hein, Nylander, Lueders and Sailer combined for a record of 9-1 in the three duals.

Josh Werner, Haverland and Lueders were all 2-0 on the day for Perham.
