The No. 11-ranked Perham wrestling team defeated St. Cloud Apollo 65-10 and host Fergus Falls 34-26 at the Fergus Falls triangular Thursday, Feb. 9.

The victories secured the top seed in Section 8AA for the Yellowjackets as they make a move for the state team tournament. The Section playoffs begin Saturday, Feb. 19 in Thief River Falls.

"This week will be a little bit about luck--who doesn't get sick or hurt will be a big factor for Saturday," Perham Head Coach Robb Moser said.

Cody Nylander and Jesse Hein led the way winning both of their respective matches by fall.

Hein secured his 150th career victory in a year where accolades are piling up for the senior.

Despite an undefeated season, Hein dropped in the latest Guillotine poll to No. 4 at heavyweight in 2A.

Nylander has moved up to the number one ranked wrestler in Class 2A at 220 pounds.

Apollo chose to rest some of their key wrestlers.

"That made the score way more lopsided than it was supposed to be," said Moser.

The match versus Fergus Falls was a preview of a potential Section semifinal bout between the Otters and Yellowjackets.

"We knew it would be a good match," Moser said. "They have a nice team and a style that is difficult for us to get used to. We lost a couple of matches that we thought were 'toss up' matches but they had one of their best kids injury default to us."

Perham was without Andrew Moberg at 160 pounds, as well.

"We were thankful to get the win," Moser said.
