The New York Mills Eagles head into the final four of Section 6A with plenty of momentum after backing up their number one seed with a 65-7 thumping of Pelican Rapids.

The loss eliminates the Vikings from the post-season.

Jeremiah Harper and #1-ranked Shane Novak each scored a pin in the first two matches giving the Eagles enough points for victory with 12 matches to go.

Harper pinned 106-pound Daniel Franco at 2:45. Novak took care of Dakota Pixley in a quick 36 seconds to put NY Mills up 12-0 early.

Taylor Ericksrud and Maison Roberts scored back-to-back wins by fall at 132 and 138 pounds.

Ericksrud won by technical fall at 4:05 over Robert Mazariegas. Ericksrud led 8-2 after the first period and 15-2 after the second. Ericksrud put an end to the match five seconds into the third period scoring a quick reversal and the rout was on 20-4.

Roberts made quick work of Ray Elizondo pinning Elizondo at the end of the first period, 1:57.

In between forfeits to Andrew Mindermann at 145 pounds and Gunner Flynn at 160 pounds, Michael Meyer scored the fourth pin of the night for the Eagles at 3:40 over Alex Diaz.

Two more forfeits upped the lopsided score to 50-7 with two matches to go.

Tyler Patron dominated Muhamed Carbo pinning Carbo at 1:54.

Max Carlson's heavyweight match was rather meaningless to the final score but he and Anwar Sharmake put on the most entertaining match of the night going to overtime.

The match was tied at zero after the first period. Sharmake outweighed Carlson by 35 pounds and the Eagle heavy had to work to budge Sharmake.

Midway through the match, Carlson attempted a fireman's carry to no avail. Both wrestlers were flying about the mat, at times, to a crescendo from the rowdy home crowd.

Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie, as did the first one-minute overtime period.

In the first of two 30-second double overtime periods, Carlson scored a late escape and takedown to go up 4-1. Carlson held off Sharmake in the final 30 seconds, after narrowly escaping points given up. Sharmake blew a chance at scoring with Carlson off balance on the mat.

The Eagles will travel to West Central Area High School in Barrett for the Section 6A semifinals Saturday, Feb. 18. Wrestling begins at 1 p.m. The finals will be held at 3 p.m.

The Eagles (15-5) will take on the No. 4-seed, Border West (16-9). Border West defeated Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale (10-13) to advance.

In the other half of the bracket, the No. 2 seed Barnesville will take on the No. 3-seeded Breckenridge/Campbell-Tintah.
