Girls Basketball: Jackets back on winning track

PERHAM -- The Perham Yellowjackets girls basketball team closed to within one-half game of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton for third place in the Heart O' Lakes Conference with a 65-56 victory over the Rebels at home on Senior night.

"Our five seniors led us from the start of the game as all five started and got us out to a quick lead with some aggressive defense," Perham Head Coach John Gullingsrud said.

Becky Stoll had a big night leading all scorers with 25 points. Stoll almost pulled off a tricky triple-double. She had an energetic nine steals and eight rebounds.

"Becky Stoll played a great all around game and really led us to the win. I was really proud of all of our seniors as they definitely led our team to the win tonight."

Katrina Moenkedick had her typical double-double scoring 18 points and pulling in 12 boards.

Moenkedick has an unofficial career total of 1,517 points, 38 shy of the school career record held by her sister Elisa, who totaled 1,555.

D-G-F would not go quietly as they rallied from the free throw line to close within a bucket at halftime.

Four late threes made the game interesting at the end of the second half, but Perham controlled the game throughout.

Mandy Mercil led the Rebels with 19 points.

Perham finishes HOL play with a .500 record of 6-6 and are 11-13 overall.

D-G-F is 6-5 in the conference with a game remaining against Frazee (5-6, 12-12).

Hawley and Pelican Rapids are tied for the top spot in the HOL at 9-2. Hawley ends regular season play against Breckenridge (2-9, 8-14), while Pelican Rapids finishes up with Barnesville (2-9, 10-14).
