SEBEKA -- Katrina Moenkedick scored a game-high 29 points closing to within nine points of Perham's all-time girls basketball scoring record, but Sebeka (22-4) found a way to win in a 64-61 victory Thursday.

"They are a very good basketball team," Perham Head Coach John Gullingsrud said.

Both teams played back and forth basketball. Perham (11-14) held the lead midway through the second half.

"Once Sebeka got they lead, we weren't able to catch them down the stretch."

The Trojans were led by Jessica Lillquist and Alicia Boe who combined for 43 of Sebeka's 64 points. Lillquist led the Trojans with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Moenkedick matched the double-double adding 11 rebounds to her 29 points.

Moenkedick has a career total of 1,546. Her sister Elisa holds the record with 1,555.

No other Yellowjackets were in double digits. Lexy Karvonen scored nine points and pulled in six boards.

The Yellowjackets season is now on the line as they open up sub-section playoffs at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (18-8).

The Rebels have won five of their last six games--the only loss being to the Yellowjackets in Perham 65-56 on Feb. 21.

"Even though we lost, we feel this was a great game for us as we get ready for the playoffs next week," Gullingsrud said.

Sebeka had been ranked in the top five in Class 1A early in the season. The Trojans are the No. 2 seed in Sub-section 5A West.

Perham, the No. 5 seed in Sub-Section 8AA South have as good of a playoff draw as can be expected.

They recently defeated the Rebels and will likely face No. 1-seeded Hawley at Concordia College in the quarterfinals Saturday, March 3, should they advance.

The Yellowjackets upset the Nuggets 32-25 Feb. 10.
