DETROIT LAKES -- The Perham Yellowjackets baseball team swept a double-header, in less than pleasant spring conditions Friday, to move into a tie for first place with Staples-Motley (9-3, 7-1) in the Mid-State Conference.

The Jackets (9-3, 7-1) won by scores of 13-3 and 8-3 to extend their winning streak to seven games after starting the season 2-3.

"I am pleased with our overall pitching," Perham Head Coach Hans Hanson said. "We are deep in that area and will need to be when playoffs start."

The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opener, but Perham scored in every inning but the third to put the game away early.

DL got their final run in the bottom of the seventh.

Eric Brauch got the win on the hill for Perham pitching a complete game. He struck out six and walked two.

Reed Johnson took the loss for the Lakers.

At the plate, Jesse Hein was 2-5, scoring twice with a RBI. J.T. Laughlin was a perfect 2-2 hitting, scoring twice. Ivan Nodsle knocked in three runs.

Game two was nip and tuck for three innings with Perham holding a 3-2 advantage.

The Jackets managed at least a run in six of seven innings again and pulled away for an 8-3 victory to seal the sweep.

Chris Ruther got the victory before giving way to Dylan Ellingson in the fifth inning.

A.J. Mattey took the loss for DL.

Gabe Pankonin was 2-5 scoring a run and knocking in a run. Brauch went 2-3 scoring three times. Ruther helped himself out scoring twice with a RBI in a 1-4 day at the plate.

"We are having better quality at-bats and making the plays we should be making," said Hanson.

Perham was aided by an unlikely 16 errors by the Laker defense, 10 coming in game two.

Perham looks to extend their win streak to eight games Thursday, May 10 in a doubleheader match-up with conference foe Park Rapids Area (5-4, 3-2).

Park Rapids has a tough week, as they play both the Yellowjackets and Staples-Motley in a four-game set on the road against both conference leaders.
