PERHAM -- The Perham softball team picked up two runs in the first inning and the Yellowjacket defense made those runs stick for a 2-1 victory over Pelican Rapids Monday.

The Vikings (1-6) out-hit the Jackets (7-9) eight to three and had momentum going into final at-bats in the seventh down a run.

Ashley Silbernagel started the seventh looking for the complete game victory. She induced a pop-up midway up the first base line from Alyssia Husby for the first out.

Sophomore catcher Megan Lesley and Silbernagel collided while making the put out and Silbernagel left the game due to a leg injury.

Allie Doll took the ball in relief trying to nail down the save.

The Vikings eight and nine hitters reached base with a base hit and a bunt to put runners on first and second. A past ball moved both runners into scoring position with one away.

Doll got leadoff hitter Lizzie Pfiefle to pop out to short and third baseman Sophie Byer snagged a line drive to put the game away.

Madison Korf took the loss pitching four innings, allowing both runs, one earned, walking six and striking out five. She was also 2-3 at the plate.

Korf scored Pelican Rapids' only run of the game. She started a two-out rally in the fourth with a single. She advanced to second on a past ball and moved to third on a single by Kassidy Spicer.

Spicer and Korf initiated a double steal, which led to Spicer being caught in no-man's land between first and second base.

An errant throw to first by Silbernagel allowed Korf to sprint home and move Spicer into scoring position as the potential tying run.

Silbernagel worked out of the fourth inning fanning Husby.

Silbernagel got the victory. She pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing six hits, one earned run. She walked none and fanned eight.

Doll recorded the save with 2/3 of an inning of work, allowing two hits.

Trisha Kawlewski got the lone RBI for Perham knocking in Ali Christenson. Syd Roberts scored the game winner. She reached on a double and scored on an error at third base.

After the first inning, Korf and reliever Husby kept the Jacket bats silent until pinch hitter Ivy Honer snapped the streak in the last of the sixth with a single.
