CROOKSTON -- The top four seeds in Section 8A all advanced at this year's team tournament in Crookston, including the No. 2 Pirates, who swept all seven matches from the No. 7 Perham Yellowjackets.

The Pirates made quick work of the first six matches, giving up no more than two games in a match in all the singles and the top two doubles matches.

Perham's number three doubles team of Christian Hinckley and Mike Botzet, who have teamed up for a number of wins late in the season, took their match to a full three sets.

The Perham duo won the first set 6-4, but Kollin Erdman and Derek Ringdahl stormed back to take the second set 6-0.

The third set seemed aimed at a tiebreaker, but the Crookston pair escaped with a 7-5 set and match victory.

Naoto Nitta lost two and two to Ross Forney.

Randy Swanson lost one and love to Sean Williams.

Al Shoeneberger lost by the same score to Travis Vatthauer.

In doubles, Jordan Cresap and Dillon Shields moved from their regular singles spots to form Perham's one-doubles team and were dispatched one and one by Cody Genereux and Ethen Mercil.

The two-doubles team of Madison Paridon and James Hersch lost one and one to A.J. Beirmaier and Scott Grunewald.

The Section 8A Singles and Doubles Tournaments will continue Wednesday and Thursday in Crookston.
