SEBEKA -- New York Mills' starting pitcher Adam Snelgrove two-hit Sebeka and the Eagle offense scored 10 runs in five innings to eliminate the Trojans.

The Eagles advance to the Minnesota Section 6A double elimination round, which begins later tonight.

"Coming into today's game we knew it would be a dogfight early on," NY Mills Head Coach Chris Bushinger said. "We thought with Snelgrove in, if we got a couple runs in, it would be enough to hold up."

NY Mills scored a run in each of the first three innings using small ball.

Shane Novak singled to start the game and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Patron. Novak scored on a single by Brandon Kupfer.

Daniel Kraft walked to open the second inning, reached second on a Kyle Vorderbruggen sac bunt and scored on a balk charged to Sebeka starter Taylor Carlson.

Shortstop Maison Roberts reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a Snelgrove base hit to put NY Mills up 3-0.

The Trojans got their only hits, both singles, from Carlos Castro and Jason Steinke in the second inning. A walk to Derek Lillquist loaded the bases, but Snelgrove induced a fly ball to Sam Slieter in left field to end the inning.

"Defensively, we had some big plays," Bushing said. "All those things, they add up."

Snelgrove picked off Paul Funk at first base to end the first inning.

Roberts ranged to the second base bag from shortstop to save a run in the third. Roberts bobbled the ball upon fielding it, but recovered in time to gun down Carlson at first negating a run that would have been scored by Funk.

Vorderbruggen nailed Tanner Burgau at the plate on a hard ground ball from Funk on the prior play.

The Eagles scored six times on five hits in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 9-0.

Carlson was chased after giving up eight runs, all earned. He failed to record an out in the third inning. A Roberts double off reliever Lillquist scored two runs that were the final pair charged to Carlson.

The other hits in the inning were four singles from Novak, Brandon Kupfer, Vorderbruggen and Slieter.

Pinch runner Nick Kupfer scored the game winner on a long fly to left field off the bat of Adam Patron. The ball glanced off the glove of Dylan Huttenen and Kupfer came around from second base to score.

The win ups the Eagles perfect mark to 20-0. Bushinger and the team are motoring along not feeling the pressure of being undefeated.

"I'm not," he said. "I don't think the boys are either. It sounds crazy, when you think about that, 20 and 0, because it's so difficult to do that in baseball."

"Our mindset all year long is to take one game at a time. Today was a huge game because it put us in next week's tournament."

The Eagles will play again later tonight. They take on the winner of No. 10-ranked Frazee (16-4) and Pine River-Backus (16-6).

NY Mills defeated Frazee 4-1 May 21. The Eagles have not faced the Tigers.

"With Kupfer coming to the mound tonight I think we'll have a good chance of winning that ball game." Said Bushinger. "If we do we're going to be sitting nice going into the section tournament without a loss."

Double elimination play begins in tonight's subsection final, when Section 6A teams are diminished to the final four.

In the south Section bracket, Ashby and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley will battle to face the winner of Eagle Valley and Ortonville.
