FERGUS FALLS -- The No. 3-A New York Mills Eagles scored twice in the final inning to break a five-all tie with No. 10-Frazee and win the Section 6A title for the second consecutive year.

Shane Novak led off the seventh reaching first on a base on balls. Adam Patron bunted him into scoring position and Novak scored on a single by Brandon Kupfer. Kupfer scored on a two-out base hit by Tyler Patron to give NY Mills a 7-5 lead.

Senior Adam Snelgrove fanned Daniel Janu and Andrew Wendt to end the game with no Hornets on base. Cory Wokash lined out to shortstop Maison Roberts for the final inning's first out.

Snelgrove pitched a complete game for the victory. He threw 115 pitches, struck out seven and walked three. Snelgrove allowed five runs, all earned.

"I didn't get ahead very well in the count today," Snelgrove said. "It made things a little hairy at the end. I didn't want to walk anyone - probably overthrowing a little bit. I tried to pitch to contact again and they hit it this time. I got the job done."

Frazee tied the game at five in a three-run sixth inning. Number nine hitter Eric Moltzan ripped a two-RBI single to score Janu and Wendt to cut the Eagle lead to 5-4. Jordan Ketter's sacrifice fly to Shane Novak in right field yielded the tying run. Tyler Wacker scored from third base.

The Eagles scored once in the top half of the sixth to stretch their lead to 5-2. Sam Slieter singled in Daniel Kraft.

"Today, definitely, the key was timely hitting," NY Mills Head Coach Chris Bushinger said. "We knew with Frazee it was going to be tough and we didn't want to get into that second game."

NY Mills got the early lead in the top of the first scoring three times. All three runs were unearned after a two-out error at second base kept the inning alive and scored Novak. Snelgrove knocked in Roberts. Kraft followed with a double to score Tyler Patron for the early 3-0 advantage.

Ketter scored for Frazee on a fielder's choice at second base for the second out of the inning cutting the Eagles' lead to 3-1.

An Adam Patron groundout to shortstop scored Sam Slieter in the second for NY Mills' fourth run of the game. Cory Wokash hit a groundout to short to score Hayden Hoskins in the third inning for Frazee's second run.

Jacob Galbrecht took the loss for Frazee. Galbrecht pitched 6.1 innings, allowing seven runs, four earned. He fanned four and walked five.

Ketter pitched the final two outs in the seventh inning. Ketter struck out Snelgrove, but the pitch got away at the plate. The resulting chaos ended the inning in a double play at third base.

NY Mills defeated Frazee for the third time this season and eliminated the Hornets in the section finals for the second straight year. Frazee ends the season with a record of 19-6. NY Mills enters state tournament play undefeated at 23-0.

"I'm just so happy for our kids making the trip back," Bushinger said. "They've had such an unbelievable season. To go, now, 23-0, I just couldn't imagine to look at our season and have it say 22-2 without a trip to the state tournament. I'm almost feeling a sense of relief. We did what we needed to do to get down there."

NY Mills will play the winner of Section 4A, Saint Agnes High School, Thursday, June 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Chaska at Chaska Athletic Park.

St. Agnes was the No. 2 seed. The Aggies defeated the top seed West Lutheran High School 7-5 to advance. St. Agnes' last state finish was fourth place in 2006.
