The Silver Pirates opened their season at Fort Ripley with two loses and haven't lost a league game since.

On Thursday evening the Silver boys knocked off Nisswa 13-1 for their tenth straight league win and a solid chance to pick up their second straight Northwest League Title.

Greg Schmid was the mound victor in another solid performance by the right-hander. Schmid pitched five innings giving up four hits and notching several timely strikeouts - one with the bases loaded and two outs.

The Pirates came out with the their guns blazing as the scored 6 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Top hitters on the day were Ray Sailer with four hits, Terry Brasel with two hits and Mike Schreader with two hits.

Player of the game honors go to Mike Schreader as his two hits also drove in a pair of runs for the Pirates.

Coach Ron Litzau felt this was a great game to tune up for the State Tournament run - good defense, solid hitting, smart baseball and at least a couple runs in each inning.

Tonight the Silver lads host Verndale in a double header to close out the home season in an attempt to keep their league title hopes alive. If the Pirates can pick up a pair of wins tonight they will run their league win streak to 12 and travel to Carlos on Sunday for the final league games of the season and a chance to win their second straight league title.

Games tonight in Tuffys stadium at Krueger field are scheduled for 7 and 9 pm. Sundays games at Carlos are set for 12 and 2 p.m.

Come on out to the ball park tonight - cheer the Pirates on to victory and give them a great send off to the State Tournaments.
