DETROIT LAKES -- The Perham Yellowjackets fell to 0-2 on the season after a tough loss at Detroit Lakes after taking the first two games of the match.

The Yellowjackets took the first game 25-19 and had a cakewalk in game two winning 25-12.

However, the Lakers rallied to tie the match after winning games three and four by scores of 25-19 and the fifth game 15-7.

"It's always a frustrating loss to win the first two games and not the last three," Head Coach Dan Christenson said.

Momentum switched after the second game as the Lakers took command of the match playing on the brink of being swept on their home floor.

"We needed to be fundamentally and mentally stronger to put the match away in game three, instead, (we) allowed Detroit Lakes to gain the momentum to win games three, four and five," said Christenson.

Maria Rutten led Perham in kills with 11. Rutten has been the team-leader in the first two games of the season. She had eight in the loss to Bemidji.

Hope Slettebak had 15 assists. Allie Christenson added a dozen.

Tina Scheidecker had two aces and led the team in digs, along with Miranda Lockhart with six.

Lockhart had five blocks.

Detroit Lakes entered the match with a record of 0-2 having suffered 3-0 defeats to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton and Bemidji.

Perham entered 0-1 after losing its opener to Bemidji 3-0.

After falling behind Perham 2-0, the Laker girls has played eight games and had lost them all.

Perham sat on the verge of evening their record at 1-1 and moving into tonight's conference-opening game with Breckenridge (Thursday, Sept. 6) on top of some momentum before The Molten Southwest Minnesota Challenge in Marshall this coming weekend.

"I go back to look at points earned versus points given up on errors," Christenson said. "Far too many of the latter tonight."

The Southwest Minnesota Challenge is the largest volleyball tournament in Minnesota.

Games will be played Friday and Saturday.
