FRAZEE -- After a relatively easy first round playoff win over Waubun, the New York Mills Eagles faced the Hornets in Frazee and were escorted out of the playoffs quickly in a 3-0 sweep by scores of 25-14, 25-5, 25-13.

Frazee's Ashley Bachmann did much of the damage from the Hornets' service line.

After dropping the opening game 25-14, both teams were square at two points each in the second set.

Bachmann served 19 straight points until the Eagles' Ellie Rutten ended the streak with a kill down the line with Frazee up 21-3.

"Serve receive has always been one of this group's biggest obstacles," New York Mills Head Coach Angela Paavola said. "We have been working on this every day this year and for the majority of the season we have improved this a great deal until (Friday)."

Frazee's team leader Alexis Tappe served out the remaining four second set points to put the Hornets on the hill up 2 sets to none.

The Eagles were unable to adjust to Bachmann's serve the remainder of the game. She tallied a remarkable 12 aces in the match.

Set three started out with a 5-0 lead for Frazee before the Eagles clawed back to within two points down 11-9.

The Hornets held the lead and Bachmann rotated to the service line just in time to serve the match out and a 25-13 match-clinching third set victory.

"It was such a disappointing way to end our season and not even one-tenth of the talent and the ability this team has," Paavola said.

Rutten led New York Mills with nine kills. Tappe led all hitters with 19, as expected.

Frazee moves on to face Ada-Borup.

The Eagles end their season with a record of 11-14-2.
