Swimming: Jackets second at DL triangular

DETROIT LAKES -- Perham/NY Mills finished second in a triangular with the Detroit Lakes and Morris Area swimming and diving teams Tuesday at the BTD Aquatics Center.

The Lakers used some top-heavy performances, as well as depth, to pull out 284 points, compared to the Yellowjackets' 225 and Morris's 43.

DL won eight events, including two relay races.

Perham had three event wins.

Zach Langendorfer won the 500 freestyle in 5:41.62. Jonathon Siira was fourth in 6:34.35.

Mark Murphy won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.70. Jayden Cullen (1:13.28) and Leighton Covington (1:19.25) finished third and fourth.

The 200 freestyle relay team's time of 1:42.93 edged out Detroit Lakes (1:43.21). Cullen anchored Todd Brown, Murphy and Ben Sullivan. Perham's B team (Leighton Covington, Billy Beseman, Siira, Alexander Eggert) finished third in 1:53.28.

Perham had five runner-up finishes: The 200 medley relay team of Luke Potts, Langendorfer, Paul Swanson and Cullen; Langendorfer and Cullen finished second and third in the 200 I.M.; Potts was second in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke; the 400 freestyle relay team of Patrick Murphy, Sullivan, Mark Murphy and Langendorfer finished second behind DL's Isaac Clem, Okeson, Jared Olson and Carter Krengel closed the meet out with a winning time of 4:14.27.

DL's Olson took two events (200 freestyle and 100 backstroke), while senior Krengel won both the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle.

Other Lakers individual event winners included Austin McCullough in the 50 freestyle, Jacob Kempenich in diving and Mike Okeson in the 100 butterfly.

The 200 medley relay of Krengel, Okeson, Olson and McCullough won with a time of 1:50.90.

Team results: Detroit Lakes 284, Perham 225, Morris 43.
