Nylander on a roll, Perham wins three of four duals at Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE -- After a convincing victory over Frazee's No. 1A 220-pounder Tony Reurink by Perham's Cody Nylander, Perham Head Coach Robb Moser announced the Nylander from last year was back.

Perham won three of four duals as a team: 39-35 over Monticello; 42-31 over Forest Lake; 43-12 over North Branch and a 47-13 loss to No. 5 Class 3A Cambridge-Isanti.

Nylander was on a run at last year's state tournament on the way to a state title run when an injury sidelined him.

At the Cambridge-Isanti duals Saturday, Nylander continued to prove his coach correct.

Nylander, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A won all four of his matches and did it by pinning three of four opponents.

No. 10-2A 132-pounder Josh Werner was the only other Jacket wrestler to sweep four matches.

Benefitting from three forfeits, pins from Jacob Guehna and Werner, along with a 6-3 decision by Gio Garcia over Jeremiah Yeats, Perham took a 33-29 lead into Nylander's match versus Willima Prybyl of No. 10 Monticello.

Monticello is one ranking above Perham in Class 2A. Nylander made quick work of Prybyl pinning him in 32 seconds to put the match out of reach with Perham up 39-29. The Jackets forfeited at heavyweight for a 39-35 victory.

Werner pinned Cooper Hanson at 2:14. Jacob Guehna got a pin for Perham at 1:12 over Jack Bourgeris at 126 pounds.

Nylander was set up with a chance to put the Forest Lake match away as Perham led 36-25 with two matches to go.

Nylander pinned Aaron Calhoun at 4:17 to seal the match bumping Perham's lead to 17 points at 42-25.

Luke Sailer, No. 9-2A at 138 pounds pinned Sam Finch at 3:13. Colin Neitzke (145) and Brady Sazama (152) made it three falls in a row. William Parks scored a pin over Joe Rydel in 52 seconds at 170 pounds.

Perham won 11 of 14 matches against North Branch.

Sam Pirrotta and Chase Curtis scored pins.

By the time the match got to Nylander it was well in hand with Perham leading 37-6.

Regardless, Nylander scored his third consecutive pin, this time over Eric Bergstrom at 1:27.

The No. 5-3A hosts built at 17-0 lead taking the first four matches over the Yellowjackets.

Werner, Sailer and Patrick Glynn won decisions.

Nylander defeated Kyle Willete 6-5 to cap his day.

Nylander has 94 career wins, tying him for Kyle Neitzert for 28th all-time at Perham.
