BEMIDJI — The Perham track teams have been the only Perham squads to get any action this season. Friday, both teams competed indoors at Bemidji State University with the girls team finishing 10th and the boys fourth. BSU has been the home for a number of events this year as teams await outdoor availability.

The top eight finishes scored for all teams. The Perham girls got scoring finishes from two relay teams and four individuals.

The 4x800m relay team finished eighth in a time of 11:15.00; along with the 4x400 team’s fifth place finish of 4:33.91.

Brynnan Covington led Perham with two top-four finishes. Covington was fourth in the 1600m run in a time of 5:34.48 and fourth in the 800m run finishing in 2:34.64. Sydney Karels finished less than two second back of her teammate in the 800 with a sixth place time of 2:36.16.

Olivia Nelson placed sixth in the 200m hurdles in 32.93. Natalie Murphy just missed points with a ninth place time of 33.14. Lizzie Fudge had a ninth place finish in the 3200m run with a time of 12:56.19.

Miranda Lockhart rounded out scoring for the girls team with an eighth place shot put of 31-feet, 4.5-inches.

The team total of 20 points landed the Yellowjackets in 10th place. Moorhead won the meet with 106, finishing 16 points ahead of runners-up Bemidji.

The boys team had five individuals place and two relay teams finish with top marks.

Keeghan Hurley got the only event win for both teams with a first place 1600m run of 4:29.66. Brady Speicher finished fourth (4:39.11) and Hunter Ditterich placed ninth (4:54.04). Hurley added a second place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:02.61. Elias Hendrickson of Bemidji was first (1:59.08); Pehram’s Nick Carignan placed fourth in 2:07.71.

Ben Sullivan continued the distance scoring with a third place 3200m run of 10:24.69.

Eli Beachy, who made a state trip in the pole vault last year, scored his first points of the year with an eighth place vault of 10-feet, six-inches.

The 4x800m relay team battled Bemidji for the top spot with the Lumberjacks edging out the Jackets 8:06.75 to 8:14.70. The 4x400 team placed fifth in 3:43.33.

Ottertail Central’s Petric VanErp had a successful jumping day winning both the long jump (21-05) and triple jump (43-06). The Bulldogs finished runners-up to Bemidji 93-62. Moorhead was third with 57 points. Perham’s fourth place team total was 47.

Next on the schedule is the  performance-based invitation-only Hamline Elite meet on Friday. According to Perham Head Coach Mike Peterson, qualifiers will be notified Tuesday evening.

According to Pat Miller of the Bemidji Pioneer, Normally the invitations are determined by times during the outdoor spring meets but this year’s extended winter has prevented most teams from stepping outside. Consequently, Friday’s indoor version of the Beaver Relays at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center provided a rare opportunity this soggy season for teams to punch a ticket to Hamline.
