Tennis: Gobblers defeat Wolverines 5-2

WADENA — The top two singles players, Mike Paavola and Drew Larson continue to put up wins for the Wadena-Deer Creek/Perham Wolverines tennis team but Aitkin swept the final five matches to win 5-2 Tuesday afternoon.

Paavola defeated Lyle Nyberg 7-5, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Larson dropped the first set 6-3 to Brych Haugly before taking the second 7-5 and cruising to victory in the third by two breaks of serve 6-2.

Aitkin's Chris Carlberg defeated Tyler Wieser-Matthews one and one in No. 3 singles. Joe Johnson blanked Fikri Rahmat love and love in the No. 4 match.

The Gobblers had no problems sweeping all three doubles matches giving up only four lost games in three matches all decided in straight sets.
