Girls Golf: Perham sweeps rare golf doubleheader

The Perham girls golf team sent a message with authority to Heart O' Lakes Conference foes Monday in sweeping two separate meets on two courses to get their delayed season off to a great start.

The girls team had the longest wait on Ol' Man Winter and took advantage of finally getting on the course winning the opening meet in Perham by 21 strokes over Pelican Rapids 187-208.

The same two teams duked it out at Frazee later Monday afternoon with the Yellowjackets coming out on top by 13 strokes, 186-199.

Perham standout Rachel Nelson was at the top of the leaderboard at both tournaments taking Medalist honors in Perham with a low round of 39 and tying Medalist Alexa Bekkerus with a 41 at Frazee. Nelson defeated Bekkerus, a sophomore from Pelican Rapids, handily at Perham Lakeside Golf Club by nine strokes. It was a runaway victory for the Perham senior, as Bekkerus' 48 was good for second place.

"Great way to start," Nelson said.

Perham freshman Becca Huus was third at both tournaments carding a 48 in Perham and a 43 in Frazee. Destiny Mitchell and Liz Sonnenberg both shot a 50 giving Perham four of the top six finishes on their home course.
