Boys Golf: Hawley continues HOL win streak

HAWLEY — The Hawley Nuggets will finish the season as the Heart O’ Lakes regular season champions after sweeping five meets this season, the most recent at home Monday, May 13, finishing 16 strokes better than runners-up Perham.

Four Nuggets finished in the top five on their home course, the Hawley Golf and Country Club. Cody Cook took Medalist honors with a low round of 74, followed by teammates Andrew Cook (78) and Andrew Curry (79). Perham’s Nick Kalina broke up the Nugget sweep with a fourth place finish at 80 strokes, tied with Hawley’s Willy Tickel and Barnesville’s Peter Sauve.

Perham and Barnesville finished second and third in the team standings for the fifth consecutive HOL meet. The Trojans carded a 345, 18 strokes behind Perham’s 327 and 34 behind the Nugget’s 311.

Other Perham scores: Nick Bahls 81, Blake Kunza 82 and Matt Hanson 84 combined with Kalina’s 80 for the team total. Brandon Olson shot 85; Nate Bormann an 89.

The meet was played in temperatures in the 80’s and heavy wind.
