PELICAN RAPIDS — After suffering only their second loss of the season, the top-ranked New York Mills softball team ran the table from the elimination bracket at the Section 6A playoffs winning five straight games to improve to 24-2 on the season and will represent 6A at the state softball tournament June 6-7.

The Eagles lost 8-7 to Frazee in Frazee during subsection play, before rattling off five straight when the tournament switched venues to Pelican Rapids.

New York Mills defeated Parkers Prairie 10-1, Lake Park-Audubon 9-0, avenged the loss to Frazee with a 5-0 shutout and continued sending teams to the off-season with two wins over tournament-undefeated Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale by scores of 8-7 and 12-0 in five innings.

EmaLeigh Roberts scored three times and was 2-2 at the plate in the shutout clincher.  Brooklyn Frost was 2-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Alexis Rankka scored twice and was 2-4 with pair of singles and one RBI. Autumn Roberts pitched all five innings for the win, allowing only one walk, one hit and fanning five batters.

Autumn Roberts shut down the Frazee Hornets, one of only two teams to defeat the Eagles this season and the reason why New York Mills had to traverse the elimination bracket and defeate BH/V twice for the section title. Roberts threw seven innings, allowed four hits, no walks and struck out three.

In the state tournament, Sections 6 and 5 are scheduled to meet which will pair the Eagles against the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles (14-4).

That game is scheduled for 9 a.m., Thursday, June 6, at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
