Perham Buzz knocked off by EGF

The Perham Buzz American Legion Baseball team was hoping to build on its momentum from winning the KLN Classic when they hosted East Grand Forks for a pair of district games on June 25 at Krueger Field.

However, it was East Grand Forks that gained some momentum as they swept the doubleheader 8-2 and 6-5.

In game one, East Grand Forks broke open a 2-2 tie with a six-run seventh inning. It spoiled a strong start from Noah Rooney, who battled through six innings. Rooney allowed two runs on five hits, he struck out 10, walked one and hit one. However, he did not factor in the decision.

Nick Lindberg took the loss. He allowed five runs on three hits, one strike out, a walk and a hit batter in a third of an inning.

Ryan Kalina and Josh Jeziorski drove in the lone Perham runs. Kalina drove one in with a ground out in the fourth, while Jeziorski delivered an RBI single in the sixth. Maddux Kovash and Carter Mulcahy had hits in the game for Perham as well.

It was too little, too late for the Buzz in game two. The Buzz fell behind 6-0 before rallying for five runs in the fifth and sixth innings before stranding the tying run at third in the seventh.

Maddux Kovash had two runs batted in, while Mulcahy and Rooney brought home runs as well.

Roo Schmitz scored two times and had one of the team’s five hits.

Perham falls to 7-3 overall and returns to the diamond with a doubleheader against Detroit Lakes on June 28 at 5 and 7 p.m.
