The ninth-ranked Perham Yellowjackets overwhelmed the Frazee Hornets in the first half and cruised to an 83-34 victory in their home opener on Dec. 14 at the Prairie Wind Middle School gymnasium.

Josh Jeziorski kicked the game off with a deep 3-pointer, which kick started an 8-0 run and the Yellowjackets never looked back. Jeziorski led all scorers with 23 points and 11 rebounds to record the double-double for the host Yellowjackets. Jenson Beachy added 18 points helping the Yellowjackets cruise to their fifth straight win to start the season.

“We came out and blew them out pretty early in the game. Our intensity level was really good defensively,” Perham head coach Dave Cresap said. “Of course when you are up 30 to 40 points, you are going to have some letdowns, but it was great to see that we got everyone into the game and everyone contributed in some way.”

The Yellowjackets used quick ball movement to get good looks at the basket throughout the first half. The Yellowjackets shot 41 percent from the field and were 33 percent from the 3-point line.

“If you do that, you are hard to guard. We have so many guys that can score,” Cresap said. “We moved the ball well tonight and got easy ones. We had a good shot, but took a great shot and knocked them down. I’m very pleased with the kids.”

The Yellowjackets forced 21 turnovers in the game and held the Hornets to 28 percent shooting from the field. The Yellowjackets held a commanding edge on the glass as well, out-rebounding Frazee, 52-25. Logan Richter grabbed eight rebounds to go with his nine points. Carter Cresap added nine points in the win as well.

Vincent Helmers led the way for the Hornets. He finished with 10 points.

The Yellowjackets move to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Heart O’Lakes Conference. They return to action with a 7:30 p.m. tip against Battle Lake on Friday, Dec. 15 at the PWMS gymnasium.
