Perham cruises to a pair of wins in Bemidji

The Perham Yellowjackets blitzed the competition when they defeated Bemidji 46-22 and Thief River Falls 44-27 in a triangular wrestling meet in Bemidji on Dec. 7.

The Yellowjackets started with a strong showing against their Section 8AA rival, Thief River Falls. The Yellowjackets won eight of the matches, claiming the victory in a potential section preview.

Blaze Brady opened with a forfeit victory at 106, which was followed by Dylan Johnson at 113. Johnson defeated Cody Wienen by decision 9-5. Owen Werner picked up a forfeit victory at 120, before Gabe Bellefeuille was victorious over Alex Leighto by fall at the three minute mark.

Thief River Falls gained some momentum winning three straight matches at 132, 138 and 145. Perham came back with a fall win at 152 from Dylan Fudge. He pinned Jayce Lizakowski at the 2:49 mark.

Thief River Falls came back with back-to-back wins at 160 and 170, before Perham picked up a pair of clinching wins at 182, 195 and 220. Dawson Kellogg was victorious at 182 with a 17-2 technical fall win. Zach Peterson followed with a fall win over Evan Jenson at 195, securing the pin at the 1:20 mark. Ty Moser earned a forfeit win for Perham’s final win of the match at 220.

The Yellowjackets closed with a 46-22 victory over Bemidji in their final duel of the day. Perham captured 10 of the 13 matches on its way to the victory.

Brady, Jack Fudge, Dylan Fudge, Wyatt Guck and Peterson earned fall victories in the win. Werner, Bellefeuille, Leighton Rach and Dawson Kellogg were victorious by decision for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets are now 3-0 in dual meets and return to action with the Grand Forks Sertoma Tournament at the Grand Forks Central High School. The Yellowjackets kick off the event with a match against Jamestown at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 8. If they win, they will face the host team, Grand Forks Central, at 6 p.m. If they lose, they will receive a bye in the consolation round.

The tournament continues on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Grand Forks Central.
