Yellowjackets dismantle Minneota, Pierz

The Perham wrestling team continued to steamroll the competition when they defeated Minneota 58-9 and welcomed Pierz to Section 8AA competition with a 55-6 victory at the Les Kertscher Dual Jamboree in Frazee on Dec. 16.

The Yellowjackets wasted little time in disposing of Minneota. The Yellowjackets won 12 of the 14 matches against Minneota including the first four, stacking themselves to a big lead.

The Yellowjackets have had a knack of picking up bonus points and that continued throughout the day in the dual with Minneota and Pierz.

Blaze Brady opened with a major decision win at 106, followed by a pair of falls from Owen Werner and Dylan Johnson. Brandon O’Hara picked up a forfeit win at 126. Minneota Teddy Pesch defeated Gabe Bellefeuille by decision 7-1, but Perham responded with eight straight wins. Five of those eight wins included bonus point victories, helping them lock up the match. Jack Fudge won by decision 14-9, Leighton Rach earned a major decision win 10-2, while Dylan Fudge won by fall. Wyatt Guck earned a thrilling overtime decision win 6-4, while Zach Peterson earned a technical fall victory. Ty Moser followed with a fall victory, while Jose Lopez picked up a decision win for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets carried the momentum into their matchup with Pierz. Perham captured 11 of the 14 matches, earning the 55-6 victory over Pierz. The Yellowjackets opened with a major decision win from Brady at 106. Werner followed with a fall at 113, while Dylan Johnson picked up a 3-1 decision win. Pierz captured a win at 126 when Jake Andres defeated Gabe Bellefeuille by decision 8-3. The Yellowjackets picked up three straight forfeit wins before Pierz picked up its second win when Reese Kapsner defeated Wyatt Guck by a 3-0 decision. A forfeit win followed by fall wins from Zach Peterson and Ty Moser continued the run. Jose Lopez earned a decision win over Carson Hulz, 3-2, to earn the final points for Perham. Jacob Gotvold earned a fall win for Pierz over Colton Kostynick at 285.

The Yellowjackets return home to take on another section foe when they square off with Park Rapids Area at 7:30 p.m. at the Prairie Wind Middle School gymnasium.
