Perham splits first home triangular

PERHAM — The Yellowjackets wrestling team split their home opener triangular with Moorhead and Wadena-Deer Creek.

Moorhead defeated Perham 45-25, while Perham missed the maximum total points against Wadena-Deer Creek by three points in an 81-0 blowout.

Perham used six pins from Ben Nelson (120), Chase Curtis (126), Tyler Fudge (138), Evan Guck (152), Jesse Klatt (195) and Trent Jahnke (220), along with a 10-5 decision by Dylan Perrine (152) over Blaine Snyder in the victory over the Wolverines.

Another rough year for Wadena-Deer Creek, as far as numbers, was evident in the Wolverines forfeiting seven matches.

The Spuds rallied for wins in the final three matches to defeat the Jackets.

Moorhead took the first three matches to lead 15-0. Perham answered with the next three to lead 16-15 on a 8-0 major decision (8-0) by Curtis over Riley Schock to get Perham on the board 15-4.

Sam Pirrotta pinned Trent Erickson at 4:20, followed by Tyler Fudge winning by fall at 5:12 over Taylor Laidlaw to give Perham a one-point lead at 16-15.

The teams split pins in the next two matches. Moorhead’s Mark Kenny pinned Zach Peterson at 3:09. Colin Neitzke pinned Moorhead’s RJ Olson at 5:37 as the teams flip-flopped six points and Perham remained ahead 22-21.

Moorhead took the lead for good on a 5-2 decision by Wyatt Hanson over Perham’s Patrick Glynn.

Samuel Grove pinned Cole Schmitz at 1:32 for a 30-22 lead.

Perham closed to within five points with William Parks defeated Grant Trowbridge 8-4 cutting the lead to 30-25,

Moorhead swept the heavies on a 7-3 decision by Joseph Grove over Jesse Klatt and pins by Ryan Schock over Jahnke at 1:27 and a 55-second pin of Jesse Bucholz by Brody Jerome for the 45-25 final.
