Swimmers place sixth at Bemidji

BEMIDJI — Jayden Cullen won the 200-freestyle and was runner-up in the 100-free to lead Perham to a sixth place finish at Bemidji Friday.

Cullen defeated 27 other swimmers with a time of 1:53:53 to win the 200. His time of 52.50 was only bested by Grand Rapids’ Matt Allison with a 51.59.

Ben Sullivan was ninth in the 200 (2:06.36) and also ninth in the 500-free (5:50.40).

Patrick Murphy placed eighth in the 100 with a time of 55.48.

Cullen swam anchor on the sixth place 400-relay team with Sullivan, Todd Brown, Jr., and Murphy (3:44.16). Melrose/Sauk Centre won the event in 3:31.35.

Cullen was also on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished fourth. Luke Potts, Cullen, Brown, Jr., and Murphy swam 1:55.40 to beat 17 other teams. Bemidji (1:48.25) and Detroit Lakes (1:49.06) and Grand Forks (1:50.65) were the top three. Perham’s B team of Gavin Kehoe, Michael Beach, Andrew Cullen, and Mason Scorup (2:29.16) placed 16th.

Brown, Jr. placed (2:26.69) was 11th in the 200-IM.

Murphy (25.19) placed 10th in the 50-free; Andrew Cullen was 30th (29.53); Scorup placed 35th (35.84).

In the 100-fly, Brown, Jr., and Potts finished together in ninth and 10th swimming 1:05.81 and 1:07.41, respectively. Andrew Cullen (1:40.41) placed 20th. Potts added an eighth place 100-backstroke finish in 1:05.99,
