Five Yellowjackets advance to section finals

PERHAM — No. 5AA 120-pounder Chase Curtis and seven other Perham wrestlers advanced to the semifinals at Friday's opening day of the Section 8AA individual wrestling championships.

Curtis won by a 17-0 technical fall over Cody Sele in 2:34 to get his day off to an impressive start and followed it up with a pin at 1:05 to make the finals.

Ben Nelson (113), Sam Pirrotta (126), Colin Neitzke (145), Patrick Glynn (160), Cole Schmitz (170), William Parks (182), and Jesse Bucholz (285) all advanced to the semifinals.

Perham's lightweight wrestlers found early success, while Schmitz and Parks added qualifying finishes later in the day.

Curtis, Nelson, Pirrotta, Schmitz, and Parks have moved on to Saturday's finals. Finals are scheduled to begin at approximately 3 p.m. at Prairie WInd Middle School.

Early round Perham results:

106: Dylan Fudge lost to DL's Braydon Ortloff by major decision 15-2. Fudge will face Thief River Falls' Cade Lundeen.

113: Ben Nelson advanced to the semifinals by fall over Cody Sele, of Thief River Falls, in a time of 2:34. Nelson's advanced to the finals with a 3-2 decision over Riley Byklum of United Clay Becker. He will face DL's Payton Jackson.

120: Chase Curtis defeated Austin Baker, of DL, by technical fall at 4:37 (17-0). Curtis pinned Fergus Falls' Spencer Sikkink in the first period (1:05) to advance to the finals.

126: Sam Pirrotta advanced to the semifinals pinning Fosston-Bagley's Lane Oldon at 1:11. Pirrotta advanced to the finals with a 3-1 decision over OTC's Sam Naddy.

132: Tyler Fudge won his opening match 5-0 over Ferguis Falls' Nathan Onstand. Noah Bernier, of Thief River Falls, defeated Fudge by fall at 3:48. Fudge stayed alive in the tournament with a 13-1 major decision over Albany's Hunter Mergen. Fudge will face OTC's Dylan Schwartz in the next round.

138: Dylan Perrine won his opening match 7-4 over East Grand Forks' Stanley Peltier. Lost his quarterfinal match to Thief River Falls' Austin Hjelle. Perrine received a bye in wrestlebacks and will face DL's Bryant Swiers who advanced with a 3-2 decision over Fergus Falls' Joe Wedll.

145: Colin Neitzke advanced to the semifinals defeating Albany's Mitchel Kotschevar 4-3. Fosston-Bagley's Alexi Bode pinned SCM's Rodrigo Milla for the right to face Neitzke in the semis and Bode defeated Neitzke 6-2. Neitzke awaits the winner of OTC's Kory Juvrud and East Grand Forks' Miguel Perez.

152: Austen Schultz lost a quarterfinal match to United Clay Becker's Nick Wamre 3-1. Schultz pinned Cole Knochenmus, of Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus in wrestlebacks in 1:33. Schultz will take on Fergus Falls' Jake Antrim.

160: Patrick Glynn advanced to the semifinals with a 4:46 pin of Fosston-Bagley's Sam Manecke. Glynn dropped a 5-2 decision to Fergus Falls' Dane Ringquist in the semis and awaits the winner of Albany's Jordan Kittelson and Roseau's Blake Skogstad.

170: Cole Schmitz won by major decision over Albany's Brayan Guevara 13-3 and will face PLPRB's Ozzie Miller in the semifinals. Schmitz pinned Miller in 4:41 to advance to the finals against Jonah Lange, of United Clay Becker.

182: William Parks pinned SCM's Clayton Mensen at 2:55 to advance to a semifinal match with Fergus Falls' Gus Makovsky. Parks won that match 2-0 to advance.

195: Jesse Klatt was defeated by SCM's Arturo Stefanoni 7-4. Klatt will face Thief River Falls' Jake Bohl in wrestlebacks.

220: Trent Jahnke lost an 8-3 decision to East Grand Forks' Evan Deziel. 

285: Jesse Bucholz earned a semifinal bid with a tight 11-10 decision over Roseau's Kieren Oksanen. Bucholz will face DL's James Huwe for a shot in the finals. Huwe won a 1-0 decision. Bucholz will face the winner of Fergus Falls' Taylor Tenner and East Grand Forks' Isaac Flores in wrestlebacks.
